Before the first jury was selected, defense attorneys and prosecutors quizzed potential jurors about their views on terrorism, Islam and immigration. “We’re trying to find folks who can truly, truly, truly be fair … in a case with these types of charges,” Umer Hayat’s attorney, Johnny Griffin III, told potential jurors. Umer Hayat, an ice cream vendor, is charged with two counts of making false statements to FBI agents and faces eight years in prison if convicted. His son is charged with three counts of making false statements to the FBI about attending the camp and with providing material support to terrorists. If convicted, he faces up to 31 years in prison. The jury pool was called from throughout an extensive region stretching from the Oregon border to Bakersfield. SACRAMENTO – A father and son charged with lying about the younger man attending a terror training camp in Pakistan went on trial Tuesday, with potential jurors questioned about terrorism and whether they knew anyone who died during the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. Umer Hayat, 48, and his 23-year-old son, Hamid, have been in custody since their arrest in June, shortly after the son returned to the U.S. after nearly two years in Pakistan. Prosecutors allege Hamid Hayat was planning to attack hospitals and supermarkets. The Hayats are the only people charged criminally in a federal investigation of the Pakistani community in Lodi, an agricultural town about 35 miles south of Sacramento. They are being tried together, but before separate juries because their statements to investigators purportedly incriminate each other in lying to the FBI. U.S. District Court Judge Garland E. Burrell Jr. seated a jury of eight women and four men for Umer Hayat’s trial, but the jurors are not due back in court until Feb. 21. Burrell said he expected to pick the jury to hear the case against Hamid Hayat today and scheduled opening statements for Thursday. 160Want local news?Sign up for the Localist and stay informed Something went wrong. Timmer tallied his eighth 20-point game of the season with 11 free throws plus five rebounds and three steals. Sophomore Ore Arogundade (Chicago, Ill.), grabbed eight rebounds and had two steals in his eighth start of the season and played 33 minutes to lead the Bulldogs on the boards again. Dominik Olejniczak (Torun, Poland) added nine points, seven of them coming in the second half as the Bulldogs only trailed the Shockers in second-half scoring by three points, 30-27.Drake (6-19, 1-12 MVC) was held scoreless from the field the first five minutes of the game with its only points coming off of three Timmer free throws. An offensive spark soon had Drake on the board and the Bulldogs held Wichita State (18-6, 12-1 MVC) to a single-digit lead for the first 12 minutes of the game. However, the Shockers’ offense soon took control by going on a 20-2 run in the final nine minutes of the half to take a 44-21 lead at halftime.”In the first ten minutes of each half, we executed offensively,” Timmer said. “They [WSU] made their runs and we have to be able to be able to stop that.” The Shockers led by as many as 28 points in the second half, despite Drake’s attempts to swing the momentum in their favor. But, Wichita State’s defense held Drake to a scant 25 percent shooting on the game as the Shockers continually stymied the Bulldogs. Drake managed a 7-0 run mid-way through the second half and brought the game within 20 points, but would get not closer than 19 points for the remainder of the contest.”What keeps us up in spirits in tough times is we know how good we can be and we have seen it in spurts,” Timmer stated. “I think we are struggling to put it all into one game.” Wichita State shot 47.5 percent in the win with Shaquille Morris and Ron Baker each scoring 11 points. Baker and fellow guard Fred Van Vleet each added five assists as well.”They [Wichita State] knocked some shots down early, but I thought our zone got better as the game went on.” said Drake head coach Ray Giacoletti. “They are as good of a team as we will play against and that we will defend against.” The Bulldogs travel next to SIU Arena Saturday, Feb. 13, to face Southern Illinois at 3 p.m. Print Friendly Version
Have you ever wondered how engineers are able to completely mend dents on cars, making it look good as new again? This week we caught up with Gavin Boal, owner and operator of Dentworx, who filled us in on how they do it.Gavin specialises in Paintless Dent Repair (PDR), which describes a method of removing dents from the body of a motor vehicle. How do they do it?As long as the paint surface is intact, a huge range of damage can be repaired using PDR on both steel and aluminium panels.PDR is mostly used to repair hail damage, door dings, minor creases, large dents, and bodyline damage. The PDR method can also be utilized to prepare a damaged panel for repainting by minimizing the use of body filler. This technique is currently known as “push to paint” or “push for paint”. By using specialised bars and rods, Gavin is able to gently mould the metal back into its original shape.Limiting factors for a successful repair using PDR include the flexibility of the paint (most of today’s refined automotive paint finishes allow for successful PDR) and the extent to which the metal has been stretched by the damage, which depends on the thickness of the metal, the curvature or flatness where the damage occurred and the intensity of the impact.Generally speaking, the shallower the dent, the greater the likelihood of paintless dent repair being a suitable option. However, some large panel wide dents can be repaired using the PDR method and the before and after pics can be viewed on Gavin’s Facebook page.Donegal Daily even decided to put Gavin to the test… A member of the Donegal Daily team, Don Sheridan, had a dent on the front of his car following an unfortunate encounter with a firework during Halloween. Don dropped his car into Gavin to see if he could put his money where his mouth is. The result? Extraordinary! Don says; “You wouldn’t even know it had been dented, it looks good as new. It was extremely well priced considering the high level of service and speed with which Gavin worked. Absolutely delighted!”Have a dent you need fixed? Gavin provides free estimates! To get in touch with Gavin you can phone 0878330100 or drop into Dentworx, Unit 46, Pinehill Business Park, Mountain Top, Letterkenny. You can also visit the Dentworx website and Facebook page to check out the before and after pictures of dents he has fixed. Donegal Sinn Féin Senator Pádraig Mac Lochlainn has expressed his “serious alarm” at official HSE reports that confirm that Donegal does not have any Community Intervention Teams.Community Intervention Teams are the initiative central to the HSE’s stated objectives of freeing up hospital beds and facilitating the early discharge of patients to their home as well as preventing re-admissions to hospital, by implementing nursing care in the home, out of hours. There are currently 15 Community Intervention Teams working across the State. Senator Mac Lochlainn said: “I have discovered that almost eight years after this key initiative was rolled out across the state, Donegal still does not have any Community Intervention Teams.“This is truly shocking when we look at the growing numbers of Donegal people on trolleys and the beds crisis at Letterkenny University Hospital.“Last year, almost 5,000 Donegal people were on trolleys at Letterkenny Hospital, the highest numbers since records began”.According to the HSE, a Community Intervention Team (CIT) is a specialist, nurse-led health professional team which provides a rapid and integrated response to a patient with an acute episode of illness who requires enhanced services/acute intervention for a defined short period of time. This may be provided at home, in a residential setting or in the community as deemed appropriate, thereby avoiding acute hospital attendance or admission, or facilitating early discharge. The HSE further state that the CIT, through its fast-tracked provision of services enhances the overall primary care system, providing access to nursing and home care support, usually from 8am to 10pm, seven days per week. Referrals are accepted from hospitals, GPs and other community sources.Services provided include:Administration of IV antibioticsWound dressingsAcute anticoagulation managementUrinary related careOstomy CareMedication ManagementEnhanced Nurse Monitoring;Care of patients with respiratory illness”Senator Mac Lochlainn concluded: “I will now be challenging the Minister for Health and the HSE to outline why Donegal has been left out of this important Statewide initiative and when we can expect to have this service available locally, to take some of the pressure of our major hospital in Letterkenny”.Senator’s ‘alarm’ over lack of Community Intervention Team in Donegal was last modified: February 14th, 2018 by Elaine McCalligShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:community intervention teamhospitalsHSEluhPadraig Mac Lochlainn

Chances are it’s not very much. Today’s guest is Jack Malcolm, a sales professional who has made a career out of figuring out the key aspects of an effective sales presentation so he can not only practice them but teach them to others. Anthony’s feeling is that Jack is a super smart guy who knows what he’s talking about when it comes to sales, so be sure you take the time to listen to this one. There’s at least one thing in her that will increase your sales percentage. If you haven’t won before you get to your sales presentation, you’re in trouble ~ Jack MalcolmClick To TweetHow to approach a major sales presentation.Powerpoint slides have become synonymous with sales presentations and many people have become sick of them as a mode of communicating ideas. That’s because those who have used them have overdone it, leaning too heavily on the tool and not heavily enough on their skill at building relational connection with their prospects. On this episode of In The Arena Jack Malcolm shares how to build a presentation that you can present backwards and forwards, with or without your slide deck, and increase your closing rate at the same time. When the room is full of stakeholders how do you make your sales presentation? It used to be that the most important person to influence toward a sales solution was the person at the top of the food chain. But it’s not that way anymore. Now it’s not uncommon to have a room full of people at varying positions within an organization who are a part of the decision making process. It’s decision by consensus. That changes the dynamic of a sales presentation dramatically. How should you deal with it? On this episode Anthony’s guest, Jack Malcolm gives some solid advice about how to build relationships all the way around so that you can get the sale more often. When the room is full of stakeholders how do you make your sales presentation?Click To TweetWork the relationships at all levels of the sale. It’s a natural tendency to feel that those who are at the top of the organizational chart have the most influence over a purchasing decision. But it’s no longer the case. Roles in organizations have become more and more segmented – to the point that top executives lean more heavily on those who bear delegated authority for specific aspects of the company’s strategy. That means the salesperson needs to be building confidence and trust with everyone in the mix, from the top all the way down. Today’s guest, Jack Malcolm teaches us how to do that so be sure you listen. What can you do to provide proof for your sales arguments?Jack Malcolm says that the emphasis lately on the usefulness of stories has led some to believe that facts and data are no longer needed in the sales process. But he’s convinced that the two have to work hand in hand. Without a story you won’t engage the prospect on the level of needs and solutions. Without data you won’t be able to convince him/her that your solution is the right one. Hear how you can incorporate both into your sales presentations on this great episode. As a salesperson, don’t make the mistake of thinking that stories are a substitute for data, on this episodeClick To TweetOutline of this great episode Anthony’s introduction of Jack Malcolm.
